EnMart Offers The Following Backing Types:

Tearaway
This is one of the most popular backing choices.   Tearaway backing allows jobs to be finished faster because the backing can be torn from the garment.  There is no tedious cutting around the design with scissors. The main feature that tearaway backing must have is the ability to be torn off the garment without damaging the embroidered design.

Cutaway
Although tearaway backing might be the most popular backing choice, cutaway backing comes in a close second. Cutaway backing is most often used when an embroidered is working with a light or stretchy fabric. This type of backing is sturdier and provides more stability for lighter weight fabrics.  Once the design is done, cutaway backing, as the name implies, must be cutaway with scissors.

Specialty Backings
Peel and Stick
This is a type of tearaway backing. Peel and Stick backing has a pressure sensitive coating and a release liner. There are three general uses for Peel and Stick backing

  • Shirts and Cuffs
  • Stabilization of hard stretch fabrics
  • Elimination of hoop marks

Caps
Most backings of this type are tearaways and range from 2 to 3 oz/yd in weight. This backing is used to improve the crispness of lettering and columns.

Fusibles
Fusible backing can be affixed to a garment with a hand iron. The primary use for fusible backing is to stabilize extremely stretchy or hard to hoop materials.

Black Backings
This backing type is used for dark garments. The use of black backing prevents the backing distracting from the design, something that can occur when white backing is used with dark colors.

Toppings
Toppings are generally used with fabrics such as terry cloth and corduroy.  This sort of backing prevents stitches from sinking into these sorts of material.
